Sylvester began his drug addictions at age 7, 25 years before I met him. He had been a severely abused child, and suffered from multiple schizophrenic episodes daily. He was clinically depressed virtually all the time, and Lynn didn’t know if he could help him or not. At the conclusion of his Fifth Gate, and for the three months thereafter during which they met about a dozen times, he still had schizophrenic ideation, but found he could now manage his episodes easily (often laughing at himself). He lost his depressions, got a job even though his disability payments made that unnecessary started voluntarily supporting his estranged child, and to our knowledge, never used again.
