Could part of the reason be why Corrina experienced problems maintaining
her balance while twisting her upper body was that in addition to the
movement of fluid in her inner ear, the movement of her body itself shifted
mass and she did not accommodate this redistribution of mass quickly
enough? In other words, there were more factors in play here than the
status of her inner ear.
I thought I was really balanced through this whole thing…then I got to
the bit with the inner ear and found out I REALLY rely on my ears for
balance. This was a really interesting video.
Yep this was a fun video. Seems like I rely more on my eyesight like
Corrina. As soon as I close them I start wobbling. And my inner ear ability
is that great either but better than my eyesight. This will be fun to do
with some kids.
What is relaxing to me is practicing falling down on a mat then standing
back up slowly back into a mountain pose ,or any pose or movement really,
maybe a balance pose, hold the pose then relax and let gravity take me back
down onto the mat, let my limbs fall where they will. I like these kinds
of kinesthetic exercises. I think every one is a mosaic of different types
and it is good to develop and hone different senses and ways of learning
like audio, visual. verbal. The worst one for me is verbal, I learn through
observing others demonstration and then practicing and asking direct
questions and receiving slow measured responses. When I ask a question I
find people answer way to fast and I do not understand what they mean, if I
ask for clarification then they become impatient and usually I still do not
get it, so usually I nod my head and improvise, wander, trial and error. But
I think kinesthetics can be helpful to people in learning to communicate
and learn to learn more completely and fully.
This video’s topic has to be one of PsycheTruth’s most important yet. It’s
something anyone can do from anywhere and building balance is absolutely
crucial with our aging population. I’m starting this as a ritual today!
Thank you! :)))
This was really interesting! Apparently I rely on my inner ears, I was
almost perfectly fine with my eyes closed even while laughing at Corrina
for falling over 😉 But I couldn’t tilt my head at all without losing my
balance. What makes us rely on different senses like that to begin with?
haha, try this, its so funny, made me laugh! Its amazing how you depend on
your senses for balance. I am really goin to practice with this because I
was falling all over the place. I am all in my head, I need to get centred
in my body more. I really wish PsycheTruth would follow this up with more
videos because it is actually leading to the kind of things they do in Tai
Chi. Nice video guys!

It looks like Corrina doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

At least now I know WHY I’m such a klutz! :-p
